Based in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, British Music Service provides high‑quality brass and woodwind repairs, servicing, and ultrasonic cleaning for musicians across the region. Every instrument is cared for by Ron Moonesinghe, a highly experienced technician and lifelong brass musician.
Ron originally established British Music Service while working with schools and musicians in Abu Dhabi, choosing the name to reassure expatriate clients that his training and standards were rooted in the UK’s respected repair tradition.
Ron trained under Trevor Head at the Llangunllo School of Instrument Repair in Wales and is a proud Professional Member of the National Association of Musical Instrument Repairers (NAMIR), where Trevor Head serves as President. This professional membership reflects a commitment to recognised industry standards and ongoing excellence.
With over 55 years of trombone playing, including 7 years of service as a musician in the Royal Artillery Band, extensive experience as a Big Band leader, and regular performance as a Bass Trombonist in Brass Bands, Ron brings a performer’s ear and a musician’s understanding to every repair he undertakes. He knows how an instrument should feel, respond, and perform — and why keeping it in top condition matters.

Having recently moved from East Sussex to Lincs I had no idea who to take my instruments to for repair. Several people recommended Ron and with good reason. I took two damaged trumpets to him for dent removal, bell straightening and general maintenance and received excellent service. Having only a few days in which to complete the job didn't seem to present a problem to him and my repair work was done quickly and expertly, with the added benefit of an ultrasonic clean. Ron is a very charming man who thoroughly checked the instruments, spotting a long standing recurring issue with my first valve and resolving it. He talked me through all the procedures he had in mind in advance of taking on the job and telling me the cost. I am most impressed with his standard of workmanship and will definitely return to him with any of my instruments needing attention. Thanks Ron for a first class service

Ron did a fantastic job on a flugel we took in for repair and a Deep Clean. The repair was excellent and the change to the instrument all round after the Deep Clean was remarkable ... and as our flugel player remarked on its return, it was 'like new'. A superb job. Also, prior to the work, Ron talked me through exactly what he was going to do. A superbly kitted out workshop and a very professional setup in every sense.
